Self Ownership: Unlocking Yourself

Niko Maheras

Do you own yourself?

The way someone answers this question can serve as an excellent indicator of how they view themselves and the world around them.

There is a correct answer.

Creation has given all living things an incredible gift.(https://www.facebook.com/YouOwnYourself/)

By answering ‘no’, one fails to understand their value as a human life and that they are responsible for their thoughts, emotions, and, most importantly, actions. If you do not own yourself, then who does? If the answer is “nobody does”, then this experience we call life is meaningless, and nothing matters. Our value lies in our ability to create and understand our actions so we can produce a desirable reality.

If you punch your friend in the face in cold blood, you are at fault and are responsible for the consequences. Therefore, your thoughts and emotions leading to (and including) the action were meaningful in that your friend is now hurt, and you feel remorse. Our individual and collective human experience is in large part about learning how to interact with our thoughts, emotions, and actions and understand which conditions manifest certain outcomes.

In essence, this is life.

Two questions come to mind when someone answers “No, I do not own myself”:

(1) Why would someone not think they own themselves?

Mind control, by way of the belief in authority, is arguably the biggest and most important reason why people lack ownership of themselves. We experience a daily barrage of messages from celebrities, government, and religion (among many others) telling us what to listen to, what to criticize, and what to do. You could refer to these types of people and organizations as ‘authoritative influencers’. They can easily influence decision making because their followers consider them to be figures of authority above all else. He who claims no ownership of himself actually has allowed others the opportunity to own and control him mentally, and therefore physically.

Additionally, most people do not truly pay attention to what these influencers are saying, independently research the information, or consider sources that present an alternative narrative. To the masses, whoever is deemed “authority” (usually by popularity contest) is the arbiter of truth; no questions asked.

(2) Do people want to own themselves?

It is important to address the connotation of the word Freedom. Unfortunately we tend to conflate Freedom too frequently with ease, good times, and relaxation. While true in certain cases, Freedom should not be taken lightly.

Freedom is Responsibility.

Those under mind control prefer to dismiss responsibility because they fear changing their lives to prioritize right behavior over wrong. And from ignoring knowledge, they do not have the desire to put forth effort to create the change they wish to see.

This combination of fear and ignorance is at the core of humanity’s self-induced enslavement.

Comfort and safety are a blessing and a curse.

To unlock yourself takes an open mind, reflection, and inspiration. It requires time, dedication, and effort, but once a person unlocks himself, he is mentally set free. From there, man can understand his worth and live life in accordance with objective truth and morality. The real work begins.

So what are you waiting for?

Learn to let go of whatever fears you have, as they will only hold you back.

Unlock yourself with the key you have always held.

Take control of yourself.

OWN YOURSELF!

No one else is going to do the work for you, nor should they. (https://niclashagman.wordpress.com/2016/04/20/you-hold-the-key-to-your-life/)
